Accidents at Work Statistics

We decided it would be interesting to publish information concerning accidents at work and work related health and safety figures. The following results were put together by the UK Health and Safety Executive (http://www.hse.gov.uk) and are for the year 2007.

Ill health
2.2 million people were suffering from an illness they believed was caused or made worse by their current or past work.

Fatal Injuries
241 workers were killed at work.

Working days lost
36 million days were lost overall (1.5 days per worker), 30 million due to work-related ill health and 6 million due to workplace injury.

Enforcement
1141 offences were prosecuted by HSE.

Its shocking to reveal that the number of deaths caused by work related issues actually rose between 2006 and 2007 by 24. 2007 had 241 fatal injuries while 2006 had 217. Construction and Agriculture have the highest fatalities in work related injuries in 2007.

The number of reported injuries actually feel by 3% in 2007 to 28,267 against 2006. Two fifths of all reported injuries were caused by handling, lifting or carrying.
