Truck Driver Impaled by 8ft Pole

Here at The Injury Lawyers, with our many years of successful personal injury cases behind us, we have seen such a variety of ways in which people have been injured in an accident that want their fault. And unfortunately there are still so many ways in which we just cannot tell what is round the corner, just waiting to trip us up; Or worse…

The Mirror.co.uk have reported of the amazing story of the critically injured truck driver impaled on a concealed pole (source).

Jason Ripley was delivering timber to an industrial estate and luckily driving slowly when the 8ft pole concealed by overgrown bushes bounced of the bonnet of the vehicle he was travelling in and smashed through the window before spearing his chest.

The pole pushed his lung aside and came to rest inches from his heart when Jason, without panicking, called his employers to advise them he is “in a spot of bother.” Jason ended up impaled by the five inch thick pole as colleagues tried to comfort him while emergency services made their desperate bid to save his life.

Parked cars were removed from the street for an air ambulance to land before he was eventually airlifted to hospital where a 24 hour coma was induced as surgeons removed the pole. Luckily the brave truck driver in the accident is alive today and has since released photos of his accident to raise money for the Great North Air Ambulance.

This terrifying accident may not have occurred if it wasn’t for the loose pole concealed by overgrown bushes. And let’s face it; it could have been a heck of a lot worse!

It’s why we do what we do here at The Injury Lawyers; pursuing claims for compensation victims of negligence are entitled to for the suffering they endure.

Everyone has a duty of care over others to ensure they do not come to harm. As a road user, I have a duty of care to ensure I drive with due care and attention. My employer has a duty of care over my safety in the workplace. My local supermarket has a duty of care over me when I enter their premises.

And when I or anyone else fail in this duty of care and negligently cause another persona to be inured – the victim is legally entitled to pursue a claim for compensation.

If you have been injured in an accident that wasn’t your fault, we suggest you seek advice from a specialist personal injury solicitor and find out where you stand. In many instances a specialist personal injury solicitor can tell you immediately if you are entitled to compensation.
