Whiplash Claims

Today’s roads are busier than ever.  We may sit in traffic jams in rush hour going to work, in rush hour coming home from work, and even going to the shops on a lazy Saturday afternoon.  It seems we are always going the wrong way against the traffic!

It is the state of the roads being so busy which means road traffic accidents are simply becoming more common.  It may be a case of someone rushing and speeding which causes a collision, or it may be a matter of someone just not paying the necessary care and attention to the road, causing them to run into the back of your car.  Whatever the reason or type of accident, it may cause you to have an injury known as whiplash.

Whiplash can occur as a result of a car accident, or even from falling from a height.  It is an extremely common injury.  It can be mild in nature with symptoms being less acute for a short period of time, or it can be more serious with extreme pain for the sufferer, maybe lasting years.

In view of the above, our team here at The Injury Lawyers thought it would be helpful for visitors to our website to have a guide to whiplash and any potential claim involved.

  1. The symptoms: symptoms for whiplash may not become apparent until 6-12 hours (or even more) after the accident, then worsening for up to a week later.  These symptoms can include neck pain and stiffness, neck swelling, reduced or even loss of movement in the neck, and even headaches.
  2. Report the accident and seek medical attention: always inform the Police when you have been involved in a road accident.  Seeking medical attention will allow a medic to assist your injuries and to update your medical records with your injuries. This will help your claim.
  3. Seek out a specialist personal injury lawyer: go directly to the solicitor, don’t use referral agencies.  This means that the person dealing with your claim will be the person you choose as you feel they can give you the best service, and not necessarily the person who will pay the most to the referral agency!
  4. Time to claim: the law states that you have 3 years from the time of the accident within which to bring your claim – but the sooner, the better.
