Accidents at School

We all remember school. It is either with fond memories of friends and fun or with memories which we have tried to forget of getting in to trouble and hating homework.

Whatever these memories, we would hope that our children enjoy their time at school and come home safe every night.  We put our trust in schools to protect our children from harm, and on the most part they do.   However, at The Injury Lawyers, we do get many worried parents coming to us to bring claims on behalf of their child.

Now, you may think ‘how can I bring a claim on behalf of my child’. Well, there is a system in place whereby the person bringing the claim is known as a Litigation Friend and takes control of the claim on behalf of the child claimant.  The full in’s and out’s of this system need not be the topic of this blog, and further advice on the subject can be obtained from our team here at The Injury Lawyers (should you require it).

There are all sorts of hazards at school which could culminate in accidents in the playground, in the classroom, or even in lesson time, such as sports.  Like anywhere else, schools must comply with strict health and safety regulations to protect students as far as is reasonably possible from harm.  Children can get into all kinds of situations which may cause them minor grazes and scratches.  But if a child has an accident at school which was not their fault then they may have a claim for compensation.

If an accident does occur at school, an accident report may need to be filled out so it is important that if a child comes home and hasn’t informed a teacher, this is then reported.  Medical attention should be sought in order to assist the injuries.  This also allows a medic to enter these into the claimant’s medical records.  Lastly, you should seek the assistance of a specialist personal injury solicitor to help you bring a personal injury claim.  At The Injury Lawyers we will assess a claim free of charge and let you know whether we can take the case on or not.  You should always seek out a lawyer directly and avoid referral agents out there who may simply sell your claim to the highest bidding law firm rather than the firm who will give you the best service.
