Whiplash Definition:
Whiplash is a soft tissue injury that affects the neck and shoulder area of your body. It is caused by an often violent and sudden jerking/jolting of this area. For example, you are correctly proceeding in your motor vehicle when it is hit at speed from the rear – your body, in particular your head / neck, will be suddenly thrown forwards; your seatbelt will then kick in and then your head will be thrown backwards. It is this type of sudden and violent movement that causes whiplash.
How do I get whiplash:
Well, as per my example above, it is often caused by being in a road traffic accident, but it can equally occur wherever there is this sudden movement of your head and neck area. Do not be surprised to hear rugby players complaining of whiplash should they suffer as a result of fierce tackles during a game.
How do I know for sure if I have whiplash?:
Naturally, the best person to diagnose whiplash is a medical expert. At The Injury Lawyers we are not medical experts, but we can usually tell from the symptoms our clients describe if they possibly have whiplash. For example, if someone complains of a stiff neck, restricted mobility, headaches, sickness, pins and needles, or general pain in the neck and shoulders, on the basis of the accident they have described, it can usually be suggested that they may have a whiplash injury.
How do I Recover from whiplash?:
A medical expert is best placed to provide you with a prognosis and recommend treatment. Each person’s whiplash symptoms are generally different from the next, and so the pain and suffering and the length of time this can persist varies as well. It may be that you need to take some painkillers and make a few trips to a physiotherapist for some treatment sessions. At The Injury Lawyers we are able to help our clients out with private medical care should their whiplash be caused by someone else’s negligence – and it doesn’t cost you personally a penny!
Can I Make a Claim for my Whiplash Injuries?
If your whiplash injury is a result of someone else’s negligence, invariably the answer is yes. That is why you should get in touch with an expert injury lawyer who will be able to take note of your accident details and advise as to whether you have a potential claim or not.
