- Being hit in the rear on the approach to a roundabout
- Someone pulling out in front of you whilst you are already established on the roundabout
- Someone changing lanes on a roundabout and causing an accident (normally when people realise they are in the wrong lane for turning off at the last minute)
We have some simple rules that we follow whilst out on the road – keeping a safe distance, taking care on the approach to a roundabout for slowing traffic, only joining a roundabout when it is safe to do so, and not changing lanes without due care and attention; but I think people either panic or don’t concentrate enough so accidents that are easily avoidable end up occurring!
A lot of people are afraid of roundabouts. I’ve been driving for over 6 years and I use them a lot on my route to work, but I feel no fear as I’m a pretty careful driver! My partner on the other hand regularly tells me she is scared to even learn to drive because of the amount of times I have had to beep my horn or put the brakes on as a result of someone else pulling out on me on the same roundabout near where I live (Markeaton Roundabout in Derby – if you know it, you’ll know what I mean). But with a lack of confidence comes mistakes.
If you have been involved in an accident on a roundabout that was not your fault, the first thing you have to hope for us that the person at fault is honest! I say this because, to be frank, when it comes to changing lane accidents and certain collisions on roundabouts it can be difficult to prove who is actually at fault. If the other person decides to basically lie, you could be in a difficult position.
How do you make sure justice is served?
Firstly, take photos after any sort of accident has occurred. That can help. Normally vehicles will be moved quickly after an accident to prevent blockages to traffic, so taking photos can evidence the scene of the accident. Secondly, call us – we are specialist personal injury lawyers who have been dealing with these sorts of claims for years. We have seen Defendants and insurers blatantly try and block a claim by giving incorrect versions of events, and we know how to fight your corner to make sure you get the justice you deserve.
