I, like many, have been the victim of grabbing a cheap hotel deal only to find that the price is far more reflective of the quality than one might have hoped. Working in the personal injury industry has also exposed me to witness the shocking standards of some hotels out there as we do take on a fair amount of personal injury claims for people injured in hotels, guest houses, and bed and breakfasts.
But this story takes the biscuit…
Sources from The Metro show shocking images from inside a Blackpool seafront hotel that was raided last year in March. From the outside it looks like any other – but inside, the New Kimberly Hotel has been dubbed a ‘death trap’ after environment health officers found ‘a terrifying catalogue of hazards inside.’
You should see the photos – I mean, this place resembles scenes from war torn countries and is perhaps the last thing you’d expect to be sitting on the seafront of a popular UK holiday resort. Ceilings were caved in, the structure was barely holding together, plaster hangs peeled from ceilings and debris is seen scattered all over the ground; it’s crazy.
Twenty smoke alarms were said to have been disabled and an illegal electrical supply was in use – had a fire have broken out at this place, it would no doubt have been devastating. One image shows that the fire exits were chained up too – there would literally have been no emergency escape!
Fire safety charges have been successfully brought against the owner who is due to be sentenced next month. Guests who have stayed at the hotel have described it as ‘living in squalor’ – the images on the report are a clear testament to this.
There is always a duty on hotel owners to adhere to health and safety legislation and take all reasonable steps to prevent visitors to the property being injured. Had anyone have been injured at this hotel in the report, they’d no doubt have a solid chance at making a claim given the shocking state the place is in. I mean, the law demands that owners take all reasonable steps, but the images on the report indicate that this place is beyond all reason.
If you are injured in a hotel because of hazardous conditions you should speak to us about making a claim for personal injury compensation as soon as you can. If you have been able to take photos of anything as proof, this can help when making a claim a lot.
