Many women are coming forward to make Essure compensation claims after suffering severe complications from the use of an Essure device.
Some women who have had Essure devices implanted, as a form of permanent birth control, have had to undergo further surgeries and treatments to remove the device. In some cases, it has fractured into small pieces inside them and the patient has had to have multiple surgeries to remove the fragments, some resulting in a full hysterectomy.
It has been estimated that 100,000 women in the UK may have had the Essure implant fitted, meaning tens of thousands of women could have suffered serious, lifelong complications as a result of potential clinical negligence and/or a lack of informed consent. We know what a devastating impact this can have on people’s lives and we are here to help you fight to get the justice you deserve by making Essure compensation claims.
What is Essure?
Essure is a permanent, non-surgical form of birth control that can completely sterilise a woman. The device, often fitted whilst a patient is awake, is inserted into the fallopian tubes. The design is that, after three months, fibres within the coils or springs of the device create scar tissue that can act as a barrier and prevent sperm from reaching eggs.
First approved in 2002, it was manufactured by Bayer HealthCare in the United States and has been fitted in women across the globe. The device is often made from over 50% nickel, despite reports that around 20% of women are repeatedly allergic to nickel. In 2018, Bayer reported it would end production and, by 2019, doctors had to cease using Essure implants.
Complications arising from Essure implants
If you have suffered complications from your Essure implant, you could be one of the many people who are eligible to make Essure compensation claims. We may be able to offer No Win, No Fee representation.
Problems and complications can be numerous. They can include pain and discomfort, reactions, irritation, organ damage, and abnormal menstrual bleeds. In some cases, weight gain, headaches, hair loss, and depression have also been linked to the use of the device.
Some women have reported allergic and autoimmune reactions to the devises, leaving them in intense pain. Other reports indicate that the metal coil has sliced through the uterus and fallopian tubes, leaving women maimed and in desperate need of further treatment, perhaps even a full hysterectomy.
