Claim For A Taxi Accident Guide

If you have recently been involved in a road traffic accident whilst you were a passenger in a taxi then you may be entitled to place a claim for compensation. Accidents happen every day unfortunately, if you were sadly involved in an accident that wasn’t your fault then you may find the following information very useful.

Always record everything that has happened, the more information you can take the easier the matter becomes. It’s always best to take the information as soon after the event as possible as that way you are less likely to make mistakes and record inaccurate information. After the accident involving the taxi, you will need to find out the taxi drivers name, the company who insures them, the company they work for, the vehicle registration number and the drivers number. Also record any details of any other vehicles who were involved, the driver’s names and addresses and take information from witnesses. Make a statement of all the facts that lead to the accident, whose fault you thought it was.

Always seek medical attention after any accident, you may think you feel fine but that isn’t always the case, sometimes you injuries aren’t apparent immediately. The medical notes that are taken from your examination will also support your claim for compensation.

If you can, take photographs of your injuries e.g. bruising, cuts and grazes. This will provide very clear evidence to support your claim for compensation. Also again, if possible, take photographs of the scene of the accident as the evidence then can’t be questioned.

If you have had to pay out for any expenses as a result of your accident keep a record of what you have paid out and keep the receipts. These can then be included in your claim for compensation and hopefully claimed back for you, the aim is to put you in the financial position that you were in before your accident.

You will probably find that, after the accident has happened, you will receive many phone calls from lots of different companies. Don’t feel pressured into accepting the services of one of these companies as they won’t necessarily do the best job for you, a lot of companies will try to obtain your instructions so that it won’t cost them lots of money. Unfortunately though, it does mean that your claim will be under settled.

It is always advisable to place your claim for compensation with an independent firm of Personal Injury solicitors. This is because an independent firm won’t pay fees to any other companies, their time and resources will be devoted to you. An independent firm should also fight for the maximum compensation for you.
