Injury compensation claims for loss of sight

eye claims

Sight is one of the most precious gifts we have as humans… It allows us to take in the beautiful scenery of the world we live in, and is how we see and interact with those around us. If we were to lose our sight through an accident, it would be a life changing injury.

The loss of sight we could suffer may either be permanent or temporary. For those who suffer a permanent loss of sight, whether partial, or total loss of sight, it is a devastating injury for the victim and their loved ones.

There are a variety of accidents that could cause those involved to suffer an injury, such as partial loss of sight or complete blindness. These include:

  • Assaults or Attacks: Violent attacks happen all over the world; in the unfortunate event that the person suffering a violent attack is struck in the head or face, they may lose their sight if there is any sort of trauma to the eye area
  • Sharp objects: Sharp objects can be found just about anywhere and can result in partial loss of sight or blindness
  • Chemicals: If chemicals come into contact with the eyes, they can cause burning, which in the worst circumstances can result in blindness
  • Head Trauma: Any damage to the head can result in blindness or loss of sight, especially though a brain injury, for example

Loss of sight can also be caused whilst working with certain objects, especially in the engineering business. This is why it is important that you wear protective eye equipment such as goggles to prevent small objects coming into contact with your eyes.

Employers should ensure that health and safety regulations are followed to prevent work accidents such as this happening. Employees should follow regulations and guides put in to place at work to prevent themselves from suffering such an injury.

Medical negligence can also result in such an injury; this may be due to mistakes made by medical professionals, and is often referred to as clinical negligence. Laser eye surgery is a common example of this. Although it can have positive life changing implications on peoples’ lives, if something goes wrong in the procedure, it can leave patients with a worse eye-sight than they had before the procedure.

If you or someone you know have suffered partial or complete blindness due to any of the circumstances mentioned above then they may be able to make an injury compensation claim.
