A man has died after getting involved in separating a fight between two dogs in Blackpool. The victim was bitten by both animals in a house in Reads Avenue on Friday evening. The dogs, which were both German Shepherds, were owned by the person with whom the victim shared the property. Both dogs have since been destroyed under the direction of the owner.
However, the victim, aged 21, fell following the dogs turning on him and may have banged his head as a result, and police have yet to rule whether the death was actually a direct result of the attack. A post-mortem is to be carried out shortly to help distinguish cause of death.
According to NHS statistics the number of people attending A&E as a result of dog attacks stands at nearly 3,800 a year. The statistics also indicate that young children are particularly vulnerable to these attacks. The injuries received as a result of dog attacks can be very severe and can cause real damage psychologically to victims.
