Man Almost Has Thumb Cut Off Defending Himself Against Four Muggers

According to the BBC, the man, 39, was attacked by the muggers in North Road, Westcilff on Saturday morning.

The assault included the victim being hit on the head and he had cash stolen after he was put to the ground. The man attempted to get up but he was again attacked with a knife.

His left thumb was partially severed and needs specialist surgery, Police said.

The man, from Bengali, also suffered wounds to both his hands as he tried to protect himself.

The attack appears to have been completely unprovoked and indeed PC Andy Coles said “The man was minding his own business and making his way home when he was attacked.”

Police also want to hear from anyone who may have information regarding the attack, PC Coles stating,

“I would ask anyone who was in the North Road area at the time who may have seen the attack, or who may have seen the attack, or who may have seen four black men before or after, to contact police.”

When somebody has suffered injuries through an unprovoked attack it may be possible for them to make a claim for compensation through the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (or CICA).

Instructing a solicitor to run your claim can be a huge help in making sure that you obtain the correct amount of compensation for your injuries. Obviously the amount of compensation that you obtain through your claim will be relative to the severity of your injuries so had the victim lost his thumb altogether then he might have received more compensation that he would for the partial severing.

The CICA provides a very important function in compensating those who have suffered injury where they might not otherwise have had any means by which to gain compensation and let’s hope this gentleman’s claim is successful.
