Incredible footage has been released on the Sky News website (Source) this week showing a car accident in Ohio, America in which the driver was seriously injured.
The accident happened on 23/08/2010 on Interstate 675 in Greene County Ohio when 19 year old driver, named as Brennan Eden, drove his Pontiac Firebird car at over 100mph causing him to lose control, hit the central reservation and then fly into a concrete pillar on an interstate bridge.
The footage of the accident was captured on a police camera and shows the Firebird shoot past the police car before colliding with the bridge. The driver was thrown from the car before impacting with the bridge and although he is in a critical condition, police say he is lucky not to have been killed instantly. It is understood that the young man was conscious when police reached him and he was then flown by helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital.
Lieutenant Marty Fellure of Ohio State Highway Patrol who was on the scene said: “He is very lucky to still be alive at this point. You can see behind me the impact he took and where he got ejected and landed, he’s a very fortunate man right now.”
Another witness said: “It’s something you see on TV, but to see it in real life – it’s something you never want to see again. He went down into the median, into the grass, hit the guard-rail, went airborne and the car hit the centre post of the bridge and literally exploded into three main pieces.”
Mr. Eden is now fighting for his life in hospital however, should he recover he is likely to face extensive questioning from police who are trying to establish the cause of the accident. Should, as suspected, it be found that the accident was a result of Mr. Eden’s own negligent and careless driving, he is also likely to face charges.
I’m sure everyone will agree that, should he pull through, the driver in this accident is very lucky to survive such a horrific accident.
