Teenager Injured at Baseball Game

A baseball fan was rushed to hospital after a bat was thrown into the crowd hitting them on the head. For one teenage baseball follower a great view proved too close for comfort when a player let go of his bat during a stroke, striking a teenage boy on the head. He was treated for head injuries before been carried off by paramedics in a stretcher.

However he received applause from the crowd after he managed to give thumbs up saying he was ok, as he was stretchered away.

The 13-year-old was a spectator at a national league match between the San Francisco Giants and the Arizona Diamondbacks when Buster Posey made the error.

Footage of the incident shows the rookie player releasing the grip of his bat at the end of his follow through. Opponents looked on in shock at the heavy wood bat flew off over a dugout before hitting the teenage boy.

Paramedics at the Chase Field stadium in Phoenix, Arizona, rushed to treat the boy who was then fitted with a neck brace, strapped to a stretcher, and received applause as he bravely managed to raise a thumb saying he was ok.

Another child was also taken to hospital when she was hit on the head as she was struck by a foul-ball in the upper-stadiums deck.

Posey, 23, who joined the Giants in 2008 said: “Any time that happens it is scary, balls were flying in the dugouts, bats in the stands, you have to be on your toes. I hope they’re alright.”

This is an unfortunate incident of a boy injured whilst enjoying what should have been a fun day out with his family. Thankfully he wasn’t badly injured, and probably lapped up the attention he was given from peering fans and baseball players.
