Whiplash Claims

At The Injury Lawyers, we have a huge number of clients suffering from the symptoms of whiplash.  We hear on a daily basis of the pain the condition causes, and the devastating effect the injury can have on all areas of a person’s life. That is why we treat whiplash with the utmost seriousness and give it the importance it deserves.

Causes

Whiplash is caused by a sudden jolting to the neck, which causes it to move beyond its normal range.  This can lead to damage to the tendons, ligaments, and muscles in the neck area, causing the condition.

At The Injury Lawyers, the most common cause of whiplash we see is due to a road accident. However, whiplash can be caused in a number of ways – basically due to anything which causes your neck to be jolted in such a way as described – another likely cause can be that of a fall – especially from a great height.

Symptoms

The symptoms of whiplash are not usually felt until 6-12 hours after an accident, and can then increase in severity for up to a week. I have listed below some of the symptoms which can be felt; a person may experience some or all of these:

  • Tenderness/stiffness/pain in the neck area
  • Swelling around the neck area
  • Recurrent headaches
  • Pins and needle type sensations down the arms
  • Pain radiating to the shoulders and /or down the back

Treatment

Upon feeling the onset of whiplash, you should visit your GP, who should give you some advice. Many sufferers of whiplash can benefit from a course of treatment such as physiotherapy, for which your GP may refer you. This may mean, however, that you have to wait on an NHS waiting list for some time before getting your much needed treatment.

If you begin a claim for personal injury, at the early stages of your claim, many good law firms such as us are able to offer private medical treatment, which can include physiotherapy, osteopathic treatment, and chiropractic assistance, right from the start of a claim.  With The Injury Lawyers, this is free of charge to you, and can be arranged at a time and location convenient for yourself.

What to do next?

If you are suffering from whiplash, and it was due to an accident that was no fault of your own, then you may have a claim for compensation. You should seek the advice of a specialist personal injury lawyer for advice regarding this, and it is advisable that this is done as soon as possible whilst the events are fresh in your mind.

If you have any questions regarding your claim then please feel free to give us a call.
