Hairdresser – Claiming Compensation

We have helped many clients claim for compensation for a range of injuries and problems that have been caused by the negligent actions of a hairdresser. We place a lot of trust in a professional whose job is to ultimately use sharp implements and chemicals on our heads! That, and the fact that many of us out there pride ourselves on our hair.

You can end up injured in a whole host of ways, and many people do not know about their rights to claim for compensation. Here’s a breakdown of scenarios where we have successfully claimed compensation for our clients:

Cuts and Lacerations

This is a bit of an obvious one – but if your hairdresser cuts your head or skin by mistake, you should be able to claim compensation from their insurance. Given the specialist scissors used, it’s not surprising to see some pretty deep cuts or long lasting scarring from your hairdresser cutting you instead of your hair.

We all know that hairdressers love to be chatty! It’s fine, as I’m sure you love the chitchat; but they still have to watch what they are doing. They have an important duty of care for your safety and wellbeing.

Chemical Burns

You want to get your hair professionally dyed; you go to your local hairdresser. Ultimately, the stuff they’re putting on your head is made up of chemicals – and chemicals can burn you!

It’s standard for you to have a patch test with the majority of products of this nature. Most people are fine, but there are a select few that will end up with chemical burns. If you are told you don’t need a patch test, or the hairdresser simply doesn’t do one, you can make a claim for compensation if you end up with chemical burns. You should always ask for one; but they have the duty of care to make sure you get one!

What You Can Claim For?

As I said earlier, there are a few ways you can end up injured or at a loss due to the negligence of a hairdresser. If you have a cut or a scar, you can claim for that; particularly if it’s in a prominent and visible place. This goes for nasty chemical burns as well. If you have to use any creams or medication to help with the pain and recovery, you should keep the receipts to claim these back as part of your case, on top of the compensation you will get for the injury alone.

If you’ve ended up losing hair, you can still make a claim; even if you are not in pain. Loss of hair is still a recognised category of suffering. Let’s face it, would you like to have no or patchy messy hair for weeks or months whilst it grows back? It would look horrible! It would have an effect on your confidence, your social life, and even your work life. If you interact with people as part of your job on a daily basis, you could be in for a lot of inconvenience.
