Any injury to the chest area can be painful. Luckily most minor injuries like bruising and breaks to the rib areas will often heal by themselves in a few short weeks, and normally you may not actually get a full diagnosis. Its uncommon for the NHS to x-ray the chest for rib fractures as there is normally nothing that can be done other than waiting for the ribs to heal.

As I said earlier, you will normally not be x-rayed and you will be given an opinion as to whether it’s likely or not you have fractured them. In the absence of x-rays, in some ways you can’t defiantly say whether you have broken your ribs or not. But this isn’t an issue because, as long as your medical records support the existence of the injury, we can use that as evidence.
The healing time in minor cases can be a few weeks to a few months. Any pain, suffering, and loss caused during this time can be claimed for if the injury was caused by negligence. You don’t need to worry that you don’t have x-ray evidence to prove the break / crack.
To value a claim, we will send you to see one of our own medical experts who will provide us with a report that we will use to value your claim. If you have suffered any losses, like lost earnings from time off work, pain medication expenses, or travel expenses to and from appointments, these can be claimed back as well.
Typical Payouts
The official guidelines that we use with medical evidence to value claims for compensation say that you can claim up to £2,800 for soft tissue and crack / fracture injuries to the chest area. It does all, of-course, depend on how long and how badly you will be suffering for, but this is what the official guidelines say.
