A broken nose is a very easy injury to sustain. Any fall to the ground can lead to one, as can road accidents where the force is significant enough to cause a facial impact injury; common on buses where seatbelts are not usually supplied.
Whilst they are not the most serious of injuries to suffer with, they are generally annoying and they do cause a noticeable degree of pain and suffering in general. Some of the more serious cases may lead to permanent disfigurement or problems too.
When you can claim
So long as the injury was caused through no fault of your own, you may have a claim for personal injury compensation. There does need to be someone else at fault though – perhaps a council if you tripped on a pothole; or your employer if you fell at work; or perhaps a supermarket if you slipped in an aisle.
The old saying “where’s there’s a blame, there’s a claim” is any many ways true!
Is it worth claiming for?
Even if it’s a minor case its worth pursuing a claim. We work on a no win, no fee so you are not at risk if the claim doesn’t win. At the same time, as long as you’re suffering for a minimum of four weeks or so, the claim should be worth at least £1,000.
As well as the injury, you can also claim for losses and expenses caused as well.
What kind of payout can I expect?
It’s all about medical evidence. We need to send you to see an expert so they can prepare a report for us to value the claim. Generally speaking, the more you suffer, the more we get for you; and remember, as stated above, you can claim for additional losses and expenses as well as the general amount for the pain and suffering caused.
Once we have all our evidence together, we can then use our wealth of specialist experience, previous similar cases, and the official guidelines to confirm the payout. The official guidelines for broken nose payouts confirm as follows:
- Simple undisplaced fractures with full recovery – £1,225 to £1,800
- Displaced fracture requiring no more than manipulation – £1,800 to £2,250
- Displaced fracture where recovery complete but only after surgery – £2,800 to £3,650
- Serious or multiple fractures requiring a number of operations and/or resulting in permanent damage to airways and/or nerves or tear ducts and/or facial deformity – £7,600 to £16,500
