The Derby Telegraph has reported of a speeding Birmingham driver who killed a passenger in a horrific smash that was caught on CCTV camera. The footage has been released by West Midlands Police after the driver responsible, Saqib Hussain, was sentenced to six years in prison for the death of the passenger in the other vehicle, Noreen Ryan.
The footage, which can be viewed on the Derby Telegraph webpage, shows the moment Saqib Hussain’s Audi R8 Spyder smashes in to the Ford Fiesta Noreen Ryan was a passenger in. Noreen’s sister, Mary Ryan, who was driving the Fiesta, can be seen pulling across the carriageway slowly when they are hit at what sources have confirmed as a staggering 78mph.
Mary Ryan survived but has suffered serious injuries to her pelvis and her back. Tragically her sister Noreen lost her life in the accident that occurred on 26th August 2014 at around 11:30pm.
This news story comes just weeks after the family of deceased motorcyclist David Holmes released footage of his fatal accident when a car pulled across his carriageway when travelling at speeds of 98mph. This was released as a stark safety warning to all road users to take extra care and think more about road safety in general.
Whilst speeding in itself is not always necessarily negligent, travelling above the speed limit, which is set for reasons of safety, can always be a contributing factor as to how serious an accident can be. The footage captured on the CCTV camera shows just how significant the impact was. It’s clear from the footage that had Mr Husain been travelling at the speed limit it is likely all involved would have survived.
