The reason as to why Nottinghamshire dentist Mr Desmond D’Mello decided to turn his back on his patents and his community, and put their health and lives at risk, still remains a mystery. To date, no reason has been actually given, and we can only speculate based on the evidence and experiences of the hundreds of former patients who have had their say as clients of our Daybrook Dental Team.
There is one popular running theory though – and this article is here to explain it.
I have personally spoken to many of our clients who we are now acting for in our fight for justice as a firm of expert personal injury lawyers with specialist experience in dental negligence claims and group action cases. With 22,000 former patients being recalled for testing, we’re best placed to help those who want justice for what has happened.
Of all of those I have spoken to so far, all of them have said extremely similar things when it comes to what the practice was like. It was often very busy and very rushed, and patient appointments were often turned around in less than minutes.
Some of our clients have expressed that they felt like D’Mello simply ‘never had the time‘ to deal with people properly. Some have suggested that he had ‘taken too much on‘ given the volume of people under his care. Some have said that they never felt satisfied as a customer, but they still felt comfortable and at ease that D’Mello was doing everything he ought to have been doing.
We suppose that was down to his charming personality – most have commented that he was one of the nicest people you could ever have met.
We now know that he was cutting corners to a grave extent, and this has put tens of thousands of people at risk of contracting serious blood-borne infections like HIV and Hepatitis B and C. It is simply not acceptable that he has done this to people that he had a duty of care to when it came to their health and wellbeing.
A lot of people have said that he was more interested in talking about his family life as opposed to concentrating on his patient’s oral hygiene. He would often appear distracted, and would often be rushing around.
It all makes you wonder whether he even cared about what he was doing at all.
So we can only assume based on the evidence so far that D’Mello was putting profits before patients. Why else would he want to see as many people as he possibly could within such short periods of time?
The media has reported of a man who lived a lavish lifestyle earning £1,000 a day off the back of the ‘dental factory’ he was operating. We can’t think why else someone would choose to see as many people as possible, and achieve it by cutting corners when it comes to hygiene, health, and safety. So until we get a formal response, this is our best guess to date.
Many former patients who are now clients of ours all feel the same as well – they all feel that, logically, this was all about putting profits before patients; something which is entirely unacceptable, and we’ll be fighting tooth and nail for the rights of those affected by all of this.
