We’ve blogged a fair bit about the effect that the Daybrook scandal has had on former patients who are now claiming with The Injury Lawyers specialist Daybrook Dental Team. Hundreds of our clients have had their say, and they have given us a valuable insight in to what it was like as a patient of the media dubbed ‘Dirty Dentist’ and we’re hearing the same things time and time again.
One thing that is profoundly evident though is just how well liked he was in the local community.
His face, as can clearly be seen from the images widely reported on media news sites, is one of a charming chap who doesn’t look like he’s any harm to anyone. Practically all of the former patients we now represent have said how lovely he was as a person; how at ease he made them feel; and how he was much more of a friend than just a dentist.
The friendly facade helped to cleverly disguise the fact he was cutting corners to grave extents – ignoring even the most basic of NHS infection control procedures, like reusing gloves, not washing his hands, and even using unsterlised equipment.
“Our dentists Des” – a common phrase amongst those we are now fighting for as former patients of a man who put their lives and wellbeing at risk when he exposed them to dangerous blood-borne infections like HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C. People are still in shock; they’re angry; and they’re hurt.
It’s all very understandable – to find out that you have been put at serious risk of life altering infection from a man so trusted and liked by most who knew him. This, as we have said many times before, has served to exacerbate just how stressed and angry people are about this whole scandal.
It’s one thing to find out that you have been seriously let down by a health professional, but to find out that you have been let down by a man you have called a friend for so many years can be far worse.
