We have successfully won compensation claims for victims of wing mirror accidents – something that may sound a little odd until I elaborate further on the subject.
Pedestrians and cyclists are perhaps in the greatest danger of being hit by wing mirrors of normally larger vehicles. Buses that come too close to pavements, or lorries overtaking cyclists, have caused these accidents in the past. As you may be aware, their wing mirrors are fairly sizable when compared to most normal vehicles.
Of course it doesn’t have to be a larger vehicle causing the accident as a car or a van can still causer similar incidents – but we commonly find its busses and lorries who are the ones at fault. If this has happened to you then you are entitled to make a claim for personal injury compensation in the same way you are for being hit by a vehicle in general.
If the driver of the vehicle whose wing mirror has hit you is at fault for the accident, you can successfully make a claim if you are injured as a result.
Whilst a wing mirror clipping another vehicle may not do a great deal of damage, a wing mirror hitting a pedestrian or cyclist can in the worst case scenario be fatal. If you’re ht in the head then the trauma can be severe.
So whether you are a pedestrian simply going about your daily business, or perhaps actually waiting for a bus at a stop, and you are hit by a wing mirror, or where you are a cyclist in the same sort of circumstances, you can make a claim for injury and loss caused.
What if the driver at fault doesn’t stop at the scene?
Contact the police and seek medical help as a matter of urgency and then get in touch with us as soon as you can. You are still able to claim where the driver cannot be traced but you do need to act fast to ensure that your rights to claim are safeguarded as there are things that need to be done.
