Broken wrist compensation advice from The Injury Lawyers

A broken wrist is a fairly common type of injury that we deal with here at The Injury Lawyers. Many slips, trips, and fall claims often result in them and so do many work accidents.

So if you have broken your wrist are you entitled to make a claim for personal injury compensation? If so, what can you claim for? How much can you expect to receive?

As specialist personal injury lawyers our advice is comprehensive and real – read on for more of an insight.

What can I claim for?

You are entitled to compensation for any pain and suffering caused as well as for any losses and expenses caused as a result of the accident. The pain and suffering is generally dependant on the concept of “the more you suffer, the more we can get for you.” The losses and expenses is down to how much the accident or injury has cost you financially, or how much you have lost financially as a result.

The issue with broken wrist injuries is that they will generally lead to time off work. An office worker may be unable to type or pick up a phone just as much as a factory worker may be unable to lift and carry boxes or operate a forklift truck. But even then, a broken wrist injury may prevent you from driving, which means that you may not even be able to get to work in the first place; never mind be able to actually work.

So there is a lot to consider and we may need to include an element of private treatment for you as well to ensure you recover as quickly and effectively as possible.

How much is a broken wrist injury claim worth?

We value injury claims based on expert medical evidence and each case is assessed on its own merits. That being said we can take a quick look at official guidelines for some general advice about how much you may be looking at:

  • Minor fractures with a full recovery within around 12 months: £2,500 to £3,375
  • Uncomplicated Colles’ (distal radius) fracture: around £5,300
  • Injuries where there is a degree of permanent / lasting disability, like pain and stiffness: £9,000 to £17,500
  • Injuries leading to permanent but significant disability but where some useful movement remains: £17,500 to £28,000
  • Injuries leading to complete loss of function of wrist: £34,000 to £42,750
