Pursuing compensation claims for firefighters

We can pursue compensation claims for firefighters who have been injured due to negligence in their working environment. It goes without saying that health and safety in relation to the fire service is of paramount importance to protect personnel who are already putting their lives on the line in dangerous situations to rescue and help people. It is essential that fire service personnel have the correct training and procedures in place, as well as work equipment and personal protective equipment to keep them looked after as much as possible. If any of the stringent health and safety requirements in place are not adhered to, that is when service personnel could sustain injury and loss. That is when we can help with compensation claims for firefighters injured in such ways.

There can be many examples of where things can go wrong, but simple ones could include a lack of adequate training, instruction and supervision. When it comes to work equipment, if work equipment was not available or was faulty, defective, or otherwise unusable, and this resulted in suffering, an injured employee could be entitled to claim compensation. If personal protective equipment was defective, unavailable, unsuitable, unusable, or otherwise caused an issue then, again, personnel could be entitled to pursue a case.

Pursuing compensation claims for firefighters injured in the line of duty can be a complex process to assess, but we are experts in the area of personal injury law. If we believe that you have been injured through negligence, we may be able to represent you for a compensation claim on a No Win, No Fee basis.

A recent incident – HSE prosecution

When serious incidents occur, there can sometimes be the requirement for the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to issue prosecutions. Earlier this year in July, the HSE announced it had prosecuted Staffordshire Fire and Rescue service for an issue reportedly arising from a rope rescue training exercise at a disused quarry in Buxton in 2019. According to the HSE report, two service personnel sustained serious head injuries due to falling rocks during the exercise.

HSE issued the prosecution because they deemed that the fire service had failed to provide sufficient information, instruction and training, as well as supervision, in relation to the exercise.
