There are certain companies out there that simply gather claims and direct them to actual law firms for a price. These companies are known as Case Management Companies or claims farmers. Ensuring you have a genuine personal injury lawyer running your case is extremely important for 2 main reasons:
- The service level you will receive
- The settlement you may receive.
Basically, by going through a Claims Management Company, rather than instructing your own solicitor can affect both of these things and unfortunately in a negative way.
Service levels
As the solicitor has paid for your details, essentially they have already spent a lot of money on your case and therefore may have limited themselves to the amount of work they can do. Letters, calls and emails all cost money (let alone wages of the people working on your case) therefore the less money available the fewer of these things will happen! As we do not involve ourselves in referral fees and we are a genuine law firm, we are able to offer our clients a high service level which includes 14 day contact throughout, all calls and correspondence is actioned on the same day, and we are open until 10pm and at weekends in case you have any questions at all. We are here to help and that is what we intend to do- not buy claims from a random company. All our Clients come to us direct and many transfer from solicitors they have been appointed by a claims management company (many being the adverts you see on TV!) as they simply are not impressed.
Settlement figures
All settlements should be based on medical evidence to ensure you do not under-settle your claim. Compensation is based upon how serious your injuries are and how long they will affect your everyday life. The figures often given by claims management companies at the beginning of the claim do not include any other losses by yourself which are covered as “special damages”.
