Two Pedestrians Killed on Motorway

Is always sad to hear of road accidents that have resulted in tragedy; and unfortunately they are not uncommon. Roads are dangerous – that’s a fact- and it’s the reason there are so many important laws related to speeding, drink driving, stringent driving tests etc.. are there to save lives.

But still sometimes road accidents end in fatalities.

According to sources from the Press Association, two pedestrians have been sadly killed on the busy stretch of motorway on the M6 Northbound between Junctions 17 and 18. They were hit by a Heavy Goods Vehicle – however the full circumstances remain unknown. Reportedly the 60 year old driver of the HGV has been arrested by police on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving; police are calling out for witnesses to the incident.

Toddler Needs 200 Stitches After Attacked by Family Dog

A toddler is today recovering in hospital after receiving 200 stitches to his face following an attack by his grandmother’s dog. The two-year-old was mauled by the family collie as he stroked the animal.

Joshua Mann’s parents have been told that he will need further surgery before he can return home to Brockworth, near Gloucester. His mother, Lisa Mann, 23, told Sky News she was shocked when she saw her son in hospital.

“I thought he was going to die. He looked in so much pain.” She said. “”All I wanted to do was pick him up and hold him, but I wasn’t allowed. Joshua was stroking the sheep dog, Rossie, when she jumped up and latched onto his face. Rossie pulled him to the ground and wouldn’t release him. His dad and others ran over and started punching the dog to get him to let go. You just need to be more aware, if a dog is not brought up around children, if they’re not used to them, they can just go,” Miss Mann said. “People naturally think its pitbulls, rottweilers and the other dangerous breeds, but this was a collie. It’s not usual that a collie would do this, but he wasn’t brought up with children and snapped.”

Girl, 11, Dies at Friend’s Birthday Party

An eleven-year-old girl was killed when she was thrown off a banana boat, at a children’s birthday party. It is thought that Mari-Simon Cronje hurled forwards and smashed into the back of the speedboat which was towing the 20ft inflatable. The 22-year-old watersports instructor, who was driving the speedboat at the time was arrested but has now been released on bail.

A banana boat is an inflatable yellow craft, that is towed by a speed boat and reach’s a speed of up to 35mph. Riders of the inflatable sit one in front of the other, whilst the driver of the speed boat tries to bounce the banana by doing sharp turns. The idea is that all passengers of the inflatable will eventually fall off into the water.

Mari-Simon lived with her wealthy South African-born parents Andries and Ancia, along with her brother Andre-Pierre, in a £1 million five-bedroom home in Putney. She was a pupil at Ibstock Place School, a private £4,000-a-term day school on the edge of Richmond Park, in Roehampton, South west London.

New York Bus Crash Kills Four

With the growing amount of congestion on our roads the government can’t seem to emphasise enough the importance of us using public transport. With thousands of us commuting to work every day, it’s the cheaper, more efficient way to travel. However, that’s not what the travellers of a bus in New York thought.

A double-decker bus travelling off its route in New York hit a low railroad bridge and flipped on its side. The Megabus was carrying more than two dozen people when it rammed into the bridge around 2.30am in the morning. The accident happened on the Onondaga Lake Parkway in Salina, a suburb of Syracuse in Central New York.

The accident left four passengers dead and another twenty-four were taken to hospital, some suffering from critical injuries.

Every so often we see the crazier stories in our offices and in the news – and this next story is quite simply shocking to read.

According to sources from the Daily Mail, a woman has made a remarkable recovery after she was attacked with scolding hot chip fat which was thrown over her face and her body. The story however describes something short of a miracle; twenty one year old Hannah Orpin, the victim of the attack, has made such a substantial recovery; the scars are difficult, if not impossible, to see.

Police Lawyer Kills 12 Year Old Daughter After Drink Drive Incident

We all know that drink driving is illegal in the UK, and is highly dangerous. However with thousands of casualties each year, drivers are still taking the risk. Drink Aware have been promoting campaigns throughout the UK to try and make us realise the dangers and possible outcomes that may occur if we take that risk.

Their campaigns have been highly successful, and the amount of accidents involving drink drivers has decreased by three-thirds since the 1980’s. In 2007 however 9,280 road accidents still took place due to drivers been over the limit. Out of those accidents 2,170 people were either killed or badly injured.

Some of us fail to stay up to date with the amount we’re legally allowed to drink whilst driving. In the UK the government say that the alcohol limit for drivers is 80mg of alcohol per 100mg of blood.

New Yorker Lucky to be Alive After Pushed onto Railway Tracks

A personal attack whilst out on the street minding our own business is something a lot of us fear. With reports constantly in the news about such things, the worry will always be in the back of our minds. My mum always warns me not to walk alone in derelict areas, or even in the city centre, especially after dark.

TV shows like the BBC programme, Crime Watch, also make us fear for our safety even when in our own homes. Nowadays we are told to keep the doors locked, and not to open them unless we know the person at the door.

In the twenty-first century it’s a shame that we have to live by such safety regulations. Back in the fifties I’m told it was safe to go out, and leave your door unlocked, never mind the windows. Today we are warned that it’s not even safe to keep those open due to the rise in burglaries.

If you feel you have been unfairly dismissed from work, or have been subject to bullying within your company, and feel you have suffered illness due to this then you may be entitled to claim for compensation. Unfair dismissal can have a long-term impact on its victims. It can knock confidence, or even in some cases cause extreme illness such as depression.

A Barnsley teacher has received thousands of pounds in compensation after he was unfairly dismissed following allegations of bullying and harassment. Barnsley Council paid £12,500 to Robert Butler, a science teacher, who claimed he had been made ill by his treatment at Darton High School.

Mr Butler began his teaching career at Holmfirth High School three years previous to starting at Darton. In the summer of 2007 he secured an advanced school teaching qualification, but despite his rapid progress ran into difficulties in his second term at Darton.
