Pile up on M18 leaves a young student dead

Jemma O’Sullivan, aged 22, an Irish citizen and final year pharmacy student at Sunderland University was travelling through South Yorkshire as a passenger in the car with her boyfriend when the collision happened. She was in the passenger seat of the Citroen Berlingo driven by her boyfriend Alan Godfrey, 27, also an Irish citizen.

Mr Godfrey remains in a serious condition at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield. The horrific pile-up which involved two lorries, a van and a car happened at 3.45pm Friday Afternoon. The accident that resulted in the closure of the M18 caused traffic jams that lasted for more than six hours.

A 66-year-old lorry driver, from Rotherham, received serious leg injuries and is detained at Rotherham District General Hospital.

Driver Killed By Hay Bale

As we all know the roads are a dangerous place, and we need to keep alert at all times. You never know who, or what is going to run out in front of you. A former pop star was killed when a 48-stone hay bale bounced out of a field and landed on his van.

Mike Edwards, who played cello with 70’s group the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), and who was driving the van at the time, died instantly.

It is believed a tractor had been at work when the cylindrical bale had rolled down a hill, before hurling over a 50ft hedge.

Woman Had Acid Thrown Over Her By Stranger

A 28-year-old Washington woman’s life could have been ruined when a stranger approached her in a public street and shouted, ’Hey pretty girl, do you want to drink this?’

Bethany Storro, was in Vancouver, Washington at the time the attack took place. She was about to enter her local Starbucks coffee shop as a female stranger approached her and threw liquid in her direction.

The liquid, which Doctors say they believe was a form of acid ripped straight through the clothes of the 28-year-old victim, causing the skin it touched to burn away.

Accidents at work are an on-going occurrence in everyday life. And often result in paying out large amounts of compensation as a result. With the increase of compensation adverts on TV, it’s no surprise that work accident claims are making it into the news.

Accidents at work can happen anywhere, to anyone. Even the highest paid celebrities can suffer injuries at work, that’s exactly what happened on the Transformers set. Gabriella Cadillo, 24, was working as an extra on the set of the sequel to the Transformers movie when a stunt when wrong.

The 24-year-old was reportedly filming a scene for the movie when an object stuck the car she was driving and went through the windshield hitting her on the head. According to Illinois police the car then hit a bar, and carried on for about a mile before it came to a standstill.

Pilot Takes Calm Tone As Plane Engine Explodes

Passengers on a Qantas jet began screaming after they saw flames coming from the engine minutes after takeoff. The Boeing 747-400 which was en route from San Francisco to Sydney had to turn back just 30-minutes after take-off on Monday morning’s flight.

The captain, who has not been name, tried to reassure those on board by saying, “Normally, we do it in a simulator, of course – we are trained.”

Gardeners Beware

Doctors warn all gardeners to be extremely careful when handling compost. The warning comes after a Scottish man contracted the deadly Legionnaire’s disease. The 67-year-old pensioner became infected by the disease though a small cut on his finger, whilst using a trowel.

The keen gardener was described as fit and healthy before he developed the disease, and has now made a successful recovery. The pensioner experienced eight days of trembling, shortness of breath, confusion and lethargy before he was seen by doctors at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, central Scotland.

X-rays taken at the hospital also showed the patient was suffering from high temperature and had signs of pneumonia in the left lung.

New Yorker Falls 40 Storeys and Lives to Tell The Tale

I’ve heard of some miracle stories in my time but this has to be one of the most extraordinary. A travelling car saves a falling man’s life. Thomas Magill, 22, of New York City, America, is believed to have plummeted 40 storeys from a New York building. Witnesses said he came down at 100mph and landed in the back seat of a Dodge Charger after smashing, feet first through the window.

Toddler comes Face to Face with Tiger

There was a rush of panic at a Miami Zoo as a toddler comes face to face with a Bengal Tiger. Diana Barrett, the mother of the two-year-old toddler is outraged at the incident and says that she will not be renewing their annual pass at the facility.

Mahesh, the 230kg Bengal Tiger somehow managed to jump over the 12ft fence which surrounds its enclosure allowing it to come within 10 feet of the toddler. Before Zoo-Keepers managed to catch the tiger it roamed free around Zoo for about 20 minutes.

Ms Barrett said she walked around the corner to discover her daughter staring calmly into the eyes of the tiger.

Lorry Crashes into Home of Sleeping Family

A Family of three are thanking their lucky stars as no one is injured when a lorry ploughed through a ware house next to their home in the middle of the night.

The couple and their 15-month-old baby are lucky to be alive as the lorry missed their bedroom by feet.

Andy and Ruth Alcroft and their daughter Taryn were sleeping at their house in Linstock, Cumbria, when an uncontrollable vehicle slid off the road and into the building next to their house.

Mr Alcroft woke up and immediately dialled 999, where fire and ambulance services arrived at the scene.

Tragic Accident as Boy Dies in Public Swimming Pool

An investigation has been launched into the death of an 8 year old boy at a swimming pool in North Yorkshire.

The tragic incident happened on 25 August at around 6.25pm when the 8 year old, recently named as Kaimen Ward, got into difficulties whilst swimming at Hambleton Leisure Centre in North Allerton. The young boy was dragged from the pool by life guards who desperately tried to resuscitate him however they were too late to save him and although he was rushed to nearby Friarage Hospital, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
