Four seriously injured in Alton Towers Smiler Ride Accident

Sadly it hasn’t come as too much of a surprise to hear about this given several previous incidents we are already aware of involving the Smiler Ride at Alton Towers. The incident that took place yesterday that left four seriously hurt is a real tragedy.

The degree of health and safety in theme parts must be high and the duty of care for guests should never be allowed to fall short; to hear that a carriage carrying 16 thrill seekers was able to crash in to an empty one raises serious questions that must be addressed.

Hastings Chemical Alert – 30 treated by emergency services following incident

The BBC reports that a shipping container from China resulted in a chemical incident in Hastings this week that saw 30 people treated by the emergency services following several complaints of irritation caused to the skin, eyes, and throat.

The container was opened and an alert was triggered when staff were exposed to dust that was disturbed inside the shipping crate.

Flamingo Land roller coaster ride accident

Sources from the BBC have confirmed that two people have been injured at Malton’s famous Flamingo Land park when they were struck by a loose section of a roller coaster whilst queuing for a ride.

The police and Health and Safety Executive are investigating the incident which saw a 15 year old girl taken to hospital and a 26 year old female receiving treatment on site by paramedics. The ‘Hero Ride’ as the attraction involved has been taken out of action pending the investigation.

Salmonella detected in Nua Naturals Organic Chlorella Powder

The Food Standards Agency has issued notification of a recall for Nua Natruals Organic Chlorella Powder after the detection of salmonella.

Salmonella can cause food poisoning and in serious cases can lead to typhoid fever, which can be fatal. Anyone who has brought this product is being urged to return it and refrain from using it given the serious risk it may pose to your health if consumed.

Organic Crunchy Peanut Butter recall – foreign objects may pose a choking hazard

Suma have recalled its unsalted Organic Crunchy Peanut Butter following the discovery that the product may contain a foreign body that may pose as a choking hazard, according to the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

HSE prosecute Cheshire firm for exposing workers, teachers and pupils at school to asbestos

The Health and Safety Executive has successfully prosecuted the firm after they failed to undertake a detailed ‘Refurbishment and Demolition Asbestos Survey’ as is required by the law. They were prosecuted at Ipswich Magistrates Court this week after pleading guilty to four breaches of The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, according to sources from the HSE.

Major Suspected Chemical Incident at St Leonard’s Waste and Recycling Centre

A waste and recycling site in Freshfields, St Leonard’s, was evacuated earlier this morning after several people fell ill and have required attendance with the emergency services.

According to the report from the BBC, there was a ‘strong smell of ammonia’ present and the area was cordoned off with Sussex Police advising local people to keep their windows and doors shut as a precaution.
