Victims of contaminated NHS blood scandal launch disability discrimination claim

You may recall the scandal where imported blood between 1970 and 1991 was found to have been contaminated, leaving thousands of people suffering from lifelong blood borne like HIV and Hepatitis C. According to a recent all party parliamentary report, it is thought that more than 30,000 may have been infected following NHS blood treatment.

Only 6,000 have been identified and the report confirms that over 1,500 were infected with HIV between 1978 and 1985. Now the BBC has reported that three victims have launched claims for disability discrimination for their payments for Hepatitis C.

Cancer care compensation victim donates payout to hospital that failed her

Sources from the BBC report that a victim of poor care at Southend Hospital who failed to diagnose her condition has donated large sums of her payout to the same hospital that failed her in the first place.

Victim Jemma Irwin who tragically passed away this month from cervical cancer left several thousands of pounds from her £320,000 payout to the radiotherapy and counselling units at the hospital in a move her mother has described as “brave”.

Footage released of speeding driver in fatal Birmingham car crash

The Derby Telegraph has reported of a speeding Birmingham driver who killed a passenger in a horrific smash that was caught on CCTV camera. The footage has been released by West Midlands Police after the driver responsible, Saqib Hussain, was sentenced to six years in prison for the death of the passenger in the other vehicle, Noreen Ryan.

Nottingham children’s home abuse claims increase to 13

We recently blogged about the victims of an abuse scandal dating back to the 1970’s where five care homes in the Nottinghamshire area were found to have been involved in the abuse of children under their care. At the centre of the investigation was The Beechwood home in Mapperley, Nottingham, and it was confirmed that at least 80 victims had been found.
