NHS cancer screening programmes under heavy criticism

NHS cancer screening programmes in the UK have come in for some heavy criticism after MP reviews deem systems as “unfit for purpose”.

It’s understood that there are some 360 different IT systems being used by the NHS for bowel, breast and cervical cancer screening. Some of those systems are 30 years old, and programmes “consistently fail” to hit targets.

This is worrying news that comes a year on from the NHS breast cancer screening scandal of 2018 which saw hundreds of thousands of women miss out on lifesaving check-ups because an IT glitch meant their invitation for screening was never sent. We’re taking legal action over that particular scandal having been approached for help and representation.

We’re already fighting in the legal action from the error that hit the news last year where women did not receive their invitations for life-saving screening. Some women in the category of patients who didn’t receive their letter developed breast cancer, and some are no longer with us. We’ve agreed to help anyone who needs to claim breast cancer screening compensation, and we’ve agreed to assist on a No Win, No Fee basis. This is the case for those caught in in last year’s scandal, and potentially for other Claimants with similar issues as well.

Hundreds may have died in NHS breast cancer screening scandal

The Injury Lawyers are investigating the breaking news that hundreds of women may have died in an NHS breast cancer screening scandal.

Women aged between 68 and 71 who were supposed to have received a letter inviting them for lifesaving breast cancer screening never received their invitations because of an IT glitch that happened in 2009.

The glitch was discovered in January this year, and the government believes that as many as 270 people have died as a result of not having breast cancer screening, and these deaths may be linked to the glitch.
