WE'VE RECOVERED OVER £1.3M IN SIMILAR ACTIONS
Oculentis Opacification Problems
The Oculentis opacification issues may have affected hundreds of patients who have undergone procedures to correct problems like cataracts. The opacification (gradual blind spots / cloudiness of the vision) issues has resulted in manufacturer Oculentis recalling batches of their prosthetic intraocular lenses.
If you think you're suffering with opacification, you should seek medical advice immediately. You may find that your vision is cloudy, and you may struggle to see in the affected eye(s) due to blind spots.
If your lens was manufactured by Oculentis, you may be suffering problems because of surface calcification that could have been caused by phosphate remnants from a cleaning agent previously used during the manufacturing process.
Oculentis say that a determination should be made as to the cause of the cloudiness you're suffering from. In some cases, they've agreed to cover the cost of revision surgery.
But for the victims, this isn't enough.
You could be entitled to claim compensation for the pain, suffering and loss of amenity associated with the need for the revision surgery. You can also claim for any losses and expenses caused as a result of the Oculentis-related opacification, which can include claims for lost earnings from time away from work during the revision surgery and recovery process.
In a similar action, we've recovered over £1.3m in damages so far, with patients claiming for the pain and suffering of having to undergo further surgery they should not have had to endure!
That's why we've agreed to represent victims affected by this issue on a No Win, No Fee basis for compensation claims.
Oculentis Compensation Claim - What To Do
You may be able to claim compensation if you're suffering problems that are related to the Oculentis recall.
Because intraocular lenses are surgically inserted, the only way to correct the problem is to remove and replace the lens(es). Even if there's no cost to you for the procedure, there can still be an injury claim for having to undergo another procedure that should not have been necessary. Further surgery also means exposure to the risks associated with another invasive procedure.
You could be entitled to make an Oculentis compensation claim. A legal case for compensation means more than just free revision surgery. It means:
- General Damages: for any pain, suffering and loss of amenity suffered
- Special Damages: for additional losses and expenses incurred
Legal cases for Oculentis opacification problems can be complex. We can tell you from years of experience in representing victims in medical product liability actions that winning compensation can be hard. About The Oculentis Recall
The initial Oculentis recall took place in December 2014 and was updated in 2017. The most recent Field Safety Notice for the recall of the Lentis foldable Intraocular lenses confirmed that there's a risk of postoperative opacification (gradual blindness / blind spots / cloudiness in the vision). Studies conducted by Oculentis determined that the possible cause of the opacification could be"the result of phosphate remnants originating from a detergent previously used in the cleaning process of the IOL (intraocular lense)".
Oculentis has since stopped using the agent in the production process that is potentially the cause of the calcification, and that the "opacification may compromise the optical transparency of the IOL in time, potentially leading to a slow reduction in the patient's visual acuity".
